When in my pregnancy should I book a maternity shoot?

Most people shoot between 28 and 34 weeks. The bump is clearly there and you are usually still comfortable standing and moving for an hour. If you are expecting twins or have been told to expect an early arrival, we bring that forward a few weeks. Book the session earlier than you think, because the date is easier to move than to find.

What should I wear for maternity photos?

Fitted fabrics that follow the shape of the bump photograph better than loose or busy clothing. Bring two options: something simple you feel good in, and something with more movement. Your photographer will talk outfits through with you before the day, and our studio has a small selection of maternity gowns you are welcome to use.

Can my partner and other children be in the photos?

Yes, and they are included in the session rather than charged as extras. We usually start with the group and the older kids while everyone has energy, then move to portraits of you and your partner, and finish with solo portraits of you.

I feel uncomfortable being photographed right now. Can you work with that?

Most people say some version of this. Your photographer directs the whole session, so you are never left guessing what to do with your hands, and we shoot from the angles that work rather than asking you to hold a pose that does not feel right. Tell us what you would rather not emphasise and we will plan around it.

Do you photograph the newborn as well?

Yes. Newborn sessions run best in the first two weeks, while babies still curl and sleep deeply. Plenty of people book the maternity session and pencil in a newborn session at the same time, with the newborn date left open until the baby arrives.

How long until we get the photos?

Standard delivery is 2-3 weeks for the edited gallery. If the baby arrives early or you need images sooner for an announcement, rush processing is available for an additional cost.
